Malgré un boîtier compact d'une taille plus petite que son prédécesseur, il intègre un grand capteur d'image CMOS de taille APS-C avec environ 24,24 mégapixels effectifs pour produire des images haute résolution, tandis que son temps de démarrage court d'environ 0,8 seconde permet une capture rapide, prise de vue réactive.
Le nouveau RICOH GR III HDF - Appareil photo numérique compact haut de gamme - doté d'un nouveau HDF (filtre de diffusion de hautes lumières) intégré pour créer des expressions douces et diffuses dans les zones mises en évidence.
